Last Saturday, I was the public address announcer at the Hunter Seifert Memorial Track Meet held at Shiloh Christian School in Bismarck.

I was also charged with the responsibility in the press box of snapping pictures of event winners that were posted on Shiloh’s Twitter account.

During that time, I had the pleasure to meet a number of track and field athletes from the Hillsboro-Central Valley co-op since H-CV was very successful in both the boys and girls divisions.

There are three things I will remember from that meet: the large number of student athletes who attended the Fellowship of Christian Athletes gathering at the 50-yard line prior to the meet; the exciting finish of the boys 800-meter run; and the amazing caliber of student-athletes from Hillsboro-Central Valley that earned first-place honors and T-shirts.

A lifelong educator, I can honestly say that rarely have I met a group of young people who were so polite, humble and genuinely conversational.

Kudos to the parents and coaches of your schools for instilling such values and capabilities in these student-athletes.

I hope your co-op considers returning to next year’s meet.

I would look forward to interacting with these young men and women again.  Impressive!
