Analyze this.

Imagine that.

Racism has reared its ugly head across the nation in recent weeks, offering a brief but open glimpse into the soul of America.

As with the coronavirus pandemic, where we here in North Dakota have been largely spared the death and dying experienced in other parts of the country, I wanted desperately to believe the unpleasantness and ugliness of racism that is so deeply woven into the fabric of our nation elsewhere was somehow not that present or evident here in North Dakota, the most open and welcoming state in the union, an opinion l hold true to this day.

Our tendency here in the outback has always been to look the other way or pretend not to hear when we’ve encountered in the not-so-carefully disguised hate speech occasionally found on our streets and in our businesses and homes that has been so evident in the world outside North Dakota.
