Racing through the cosmos for four days after the Apollo 11 moon mission was launched from Florida’s Kennedy Space Center, the first humans were walking on the lunar surface.

Astronauts Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin had just stepped out of the lunar module Eagle.

I was monitoring the moon mission from the top of the water tower.
