Anniversaries on or around any given day and date give columnists something to write about, thank you.

For instance, 20 years ago this week, I returned to Hillsboro and the Banner.

Listen closely, that’s geese flying across North Dakota, not cheers on the anniversary of my returning to Hillsboro, you’re hearing.

Then again, it could be jeers, we’re hearing.

Cheers, jeers, anyone need more beer?

None here, thank you.

I’ve told stories of the Banner 55 years ago from so many different angles I know them by heart; you probably do, too.

Still, the stories of Main Street and commerce of half a century ago in Hillsboro make for good reading.

I can still picture Harry Eisenbeis, Ed Baumgartner, Lyle Henning and Buster Fankhanel standing on the corner of Main and Caledonia like it was yesterday. Twenty years ago they each stopped at the Banner to welcome me home.

For more, see the Banner's online or print edition.
