Glasses, contacts or crayons? Take your pick.

I’ve seen so many optometrists and ophthalmologists and different clinics in different cities the last few years I think I need a checkoff list. Seen him, see her next month. Been there, done that. Appointment here, appointment there.

Welcomed, not welcomed. Call first, don’t bother calling.

I was wearing a patch over my right eye at one recent appointment. I’m not remembering where or when, which is probably a good thing, but I do remember what went down.

“Mr. Nelson, I presume,” the front desk receptionist said, welcoming me.

Call me Patch, please, I said, joking.

She instructed me to take the seat between the water fountain and coloring table for the children.

Coloring table. Crayons?

A family of five was seating across from me. Mother, father, three children. A nurse appeared and called for the mother.
