Irreconcilable differences have seemingly been breaking up marriages, well, forever.

For the record, it’s conveniently used as grounds for divorces.

No-fault grounds for divorce, the lawyerly crowd likes to call it. Legalese is not necessary when the married couple is complaining and crying irreconcilable differences.

The marriage is broke and can’t be fixed, in other words.

Not that irreconcilable differences have factored in my wonderful marriage; they haven’t, trust me. Nor is our marriage in trouble; it isn’t, trust me.

It might have factored into the breakup of my first marriage, I’ll give you that, but not the second, OK?
