Dorothy M. Gordon, 78, Moorhead, Minn., died Saturday, Feb. 15, 2020, at her residence, surrounded by family and under care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.

Dorothy May Braaten was born June 4, 1941, on the family farm in rural Nielsville, Minn., to Oscar and Marion (Scott) Braaten. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Petri Lutheran Church in Nielsville and graduated from Climax (Minn.) High School in 1959. On March 19, 1960, Dorothy was united in marriage to Ramon D. “Tim” Meyer. They resided in Hillsboro, N.D., and started their family. Dorothy stayed busy tending to her family, but also worked in various businesses in Hillsboro. For several years she wrote articles for the Hillsboro Banner.

In 1981, Dorothy moved to Tononpah, Nev. On January 14, 1984, she was united in marriage to Carrold Gordon. She worked as a lab technician at Nye Regional Hospital for many years. In 1995, she and Carrold moved to West McDonald Lake near Vergas, Minn. While living in lakes country, Dorothy worked as a phlebotomist at Sanford Clinic in Detroit Lakes. She retired in 2004. Dorothy moved to Moorhead in 2007.

Above all, Dorothy loved her family and took great joy in hosting many family holidays and summer weekends at the lake. She enjoyed gardening and loved to can vegetables from her large gardens. She was an accomplished seamstress and quilter. She had a wonderful artistic side, and with her flare for creativity and ideas, Dorothy was the “go to” person for events such as birthday parties, weddings and other various family occasions.

Dorothy was proud of the work she did at the hospital in Tonopah and the clinic in Detroit Lakes, Minn. During retirement, she loved to fish and cook for her family along with enjoying time at the lake.

Dorothy will be remembered and missed by her four children, William Meyer, Daniel Meyer, Jane Gullekson (Chris Meyer) and Tim “Chip” (Christina) Meyer. In addition, she is survived by two sisters, Carol (Arvid) Sonstelie and Bonnie (Russ) Olson; and two brothers, Allan Braaten and Gary Braaten; along with numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Carrold (2005) and granddaughter, Sarah Gullekson.

A Memorial Service for Dorothy was held Saturday, February 22, 2020, at 11AM in Dilworth Lutheran Church, Dilworth, Minn. A gathering of family and friends was held one hour prior to the service.
