Dawn Rae Ludwig, 52, of Mayville, N.D., died Tuesday, April 2, 2019 at the Sanford Hospital in Mayville.

In the early dawn hours of June 10, 1966 a ray of sunshine came through the hospital window and Dawn Rae Ludwig was born. Her proud parents were Harley and Florence Ludwig of Portland, N.D.

Dawn Rae was baptized and confirmed at Bruflat Lutheran Church where she was a lifetime member. She graduated from Mayville-Portland High School. During Dawn Rae’s active life, she enjoyed winning many awards in Special Olympics, becoming a loyal fan for high school and college athletics. The college basketball team was known as “Her Boys.”

Her family relied on her daily weather reports and the shopping lists she made to local grocery stores. Dawn Rae spent hours reading the newspaper, doing her homework and watching movies when she wasn’t socializing in the community.

Dawn Rae’s giant personality and infectious laugh brought joy to all the hearts she touched.

She is survived by three loving sisters and their spouses: Zondra and David Larsen of Hutchinson, Minn., Deanna and Bill Ellingson of Roseville, MN, Donna and Curt Mark of Dalton, Minn. and her favorite brother “The Boss” Dean and Debi Ludwig of West Fargo, N.D. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews, all who were the pride of her life. She is survived by four very special friends: Andrea Brend, Wanda Freadrich, Stan and Gwen Dakken.

Preceded in death by her parents: Harley E. and Florence (Jacobson) Ludwig and a brother: Kenneth A. Ludwig.
