Franklin Skogen, age 97 of Mesa, Ariz., died peacefully on Friday, June 15, 2018, at the Home Sweet Home care facility in Mesa.

Franklin “Frank” Skogen was born on Nov. 30, 1920 in Hillsboro, N.D., to Edward and Lena Skogen.

On June 1, 1949, Frank married Marion Delaney in Larimore, N.D.

The couple lived in a variety of locations in Montana, North Dakota, Minnesota and for the last 43 years in Mesa.

Frank was a teacher and school counselor all of his professional life.

Twin Valley High School in Minnesota dedicated the school annual to Frank for his work with students.

The major part of his career was spent as a school counselor at Westwood High School in Mesa. 

Frank was a graduate of Hillsboro High School, where he is a member of the Hillsboro Public School Hall of Fame. 

Frank was an outstanding football player at Hillsboro. The teams were frequently undefeated during Frank’s playing days.

From high school, Frank enlisted in the Marine Corps and served in World War II. He was stationed at Ulithi in the Pacific theater. 

After discharge at the rank of Master Tech Sergeant from the Corps, Frank enrolled at Mayville State College where he met Marion Delaney. 

Frank and Marion were avid travelers and enjoyed frequent cruises. 

Frank enjoyed visiting with his Mesa friends, golfing, reading and watching sports on TV. His favorite times were the hours spent with Marion.

Frank is survived by his wife, Marion Skogen, of Mesa, sister Doris Berg of Hillsboro, and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister LaVerne Skogen, brother-in-law Richard Berg (Doris) and niece Susan (Berg) Kale.

Arrangements were made with Mountain View Mortuary, Mesa.
