The Traill County Board of Commissioners on Tuesday temporarily delayed plans to expand the county courthouse’s parking lot in Hillsboro.

County commissioners voted earlier this summer to spend up to $100,000 to build a second parking lot west of the existing one late this year or by next summer.

After advertising the project, officials learned Tuesday that only two contractors had reached out to the county to perform the work.

Matt Lange of KLJ Engineering said the estimates from Border States Paving in Fargo and Opp Construction, which has offices in Fargo and Grand Forks, were significantly higher than expected.
