Administrators in the Central Valley School District need to spend down funds in the district’s lunch fund to comply with a request from state officials.

Superintendent Jeremy Brandt told the Central Valley School Board on Wednesday that due to new federal regulations the school risks losing its federal food funding if the district’s $90,000 lunch account balance isn’t reduced by July 1.

“We’re only able to carry three months of expenses in our lunch account,” Brandt informed board members. “I find it a bit ridiculous.”

The Central Valley administrator said the district deficit spends by roughly $20,000 a year in its lunch account so the balance would have been addressed over time.
