The municipal pool in Hillsboro’s Woodland Park opened for the summer Wednesday.

The opening had been delayed by more than a week after a pair of the pool’s heat pumps failed earlier this month.

Pool manager Kathy Duval said that new pumps arrived Tuesday, allowing workers to install the heaters prior to Wednesday’s 1 p.m. opening.

City officials have hired a worker who will be responsible for cleaning locker rooms and other areas to stem the spread of the coronavirus.

New safety protocols in effect this summer at the Woodland Park pool include:

  • Water fountains will be closed and no storage areas will be available in locker rooms.
  • Bathrooms and common areas will be sanitized every hour.
  • A five-color coding system to address pool capacity has been added: red (closed); orange (15 swimmers allowed in the large and kiddie pools); yellow (40 in large pool, 20 in kiddie pool); green (75 in large pool, 30 in kiddie pool); and blue (no restrictions).
