Nearly 80 volunteers helped out neighbors in Hillsboro’s third annual day of service Saturday morning.

Groups spread throughout town to help at 15 different locations, doing odd jobs like cleaning gutters and winterizing flower gardens.

With clear skies and mild temperatures, the event had one of its most successful years ever.

“It worked out perfectly,” said organizer Brenda Stallman, director of Traill District Health Unit. “We didn’t expect such a good turnout.”

The Hillsboro-Central Valley football team bolstered numbers Saturday, with the high school crew showing up en masse to tackle a host of tasks.

Stallman said the day of service went quickly and smoothly with between 75 and 80 volunteers.

“With the number of people who showed up, a good part of the day was still open for them,” she said. “We were able to do the projects efficiently.”
