The Hillsboro School Board has approved spending up to $25,000 for a new backstop at the city’s baseball field.

The school board voted last Thursday to replace the facility’s existing chain-link fence backstop with a 25-foot net spanning approximately 140 feet.

Composite material and foam padding will finish off the project, expected to be completed in October.

“We’re going to clean the backstop up, and give it a bit more of an upgrade in terms of the looks and functionality,”said Hillsboro-Central Valley athletic director Dave Nelson.

Nelson said the facility was due for an update.
