Traill County health officials on Tuesday issued a plea to local residents to practice social distancing and wear masks in public after a record number of COVID-19 cases were reported in the state Monday.

The North Dakota Department of Health announced 108 positive cases of COVID-19 were found among 4,564 tests conducted in 20 counties across the state. The department also reported a record 43 hospitalizations caused by the coronavirus.

“Part of the increase is due to the large number of testing events that the state is hosting,” said Brenda Stallman, director of Traill District Health Unit.

“But we’re also seeing that people are being a little complacent with their hygiene practices and prevention measures.”
