A housing development on the west side of Interstate 29 in Hillsboro could see a delay as city leaders wrangle with a request for a new zoning designation for the project.

Hillsboro City Commission President Terry Sando said Monday that the developer leading the charge to fill landowner Pat Muller’s Riverwalk Addition has requested a change in the city’s zoning ordinances.

Specifically, the developer would like the city to amend its zoning regulations to allow smaller lots spaced closer together than what the city allows currently, Sando said.

Sando told the Hillsboro Economic Development Commission on Monday night that he wouldn’t be in favor of the change, which could create delays while city officials work through the issue.
