Portions of Interstate 29 were closed and local school officials called off school Wednesday due to a blizzard in the Red River Valley.

The North Dakota Department of Transportation closed I-29 from the Canadian border to the South Dakota border around 9 a.m. Wednesday due to blowing and drifting snow that reduced visibility to near zero.

NDDOT officials announced that the road closure had been lifted from South Dakota to Grand Forks around 1 p.m. Wednesday.

The blizzard forced the cancellation of classes at Hillsboro and Central Valley public schools.

Administrators in Hillsboro announced the school will have a storm makeup day March 27.

Central Valley will hold its makeup day May 22.

The Central Valley School Board postponed its regularly scheduled monthly meeting on Wednesday until 7 a.m. today (Friday).

The Hillsboro Business Association’s February meeting Wednesday was rescheduled for noon Wednesday, Feb. 19 at The Hillsboro Cafe.
