The Hillsboro School Board has sent a clear message to students interested in signing up for a school-sponsored esports team: game on.

School board members agreed Wednesday to spend $15,000 to purchase five gaming computers and setups to compete in an esports club league starting in October.

Hillsboro-Central Valley athletic director Dave Nelson said school officials are continuing to muddle their way through specifics for the start-up team.

High school math teacher Logan McAllister has agreed to coach gamers, although school board members debated Wednesday how much he should be paid.
