The 112-year-old dome of the Traill County Courthouse in Hillsboro has started to leak and needs more than $100,000 in repairs, roofing contractors told county officials Tuesday.

Ted Keller and Leo Straley of General Roofing & Construction in Carrington, N.D., said the courthouse dome needs new paint and treated timbers to replace the wood that has started to rot beneath the metal portion of the dome.

“The dome is going to be destroyed. It’s eventually going to collapse,” Keller told the Traill County commissioners. “You can only defer the maintenance so long on the structure before it has to be sealed.”
