Note to readers: Last week, the Hillsboro Banner recapped the headlines from the first six months of 2019.

This week, we highlight the stories and photographs that captured our attention during the second half of the year.

July

Teacher contracts

The Central Valley School Board approved a new two-year contract with its teachers union July 2.

The agreement provided a $600 pay bump for the district’s 20 full-time teachers and a matching $600 step increase in year one, with an identical raise in 2020-21.

The deal boosted teachers’ pay by roughly 2.75 percent each year.

Jordahl speaks out

The president of Jordahl Custom Homes said in an interview with the Banner that he hadn’t abandoned plans to built a 32-unit multi-family housing project in Hillsboro.
