County Highway 11 a mile east of Hillsboro will be closed to traffic for several weeks starting in mid-July due to the installation of a box culvert beneath the roadway.

Corwyn Martin, Traill County’s road and bridge supervisor, said county crews will be begin installing signs along the road in the next few weeks informing drivers of the pending closure.

“We want to warn people ahead of time,” Martin said Tuesday.

Detour signs will be placed on the outskirts of Hillsboro and along County Highway 4 about 3 miles east of the job site notifying motorists to find alternative routes, he said.

Martin said the project could be wrapped up in two weeks depending on variables such as rain and the length of time needed to dismantle the old bridge being replaced by the box culvert.

He said county officials hope to finish the work prior to American Crystal Sugar’s annual prepile sugar beet harvest. Last year’s prepile harvest began Aug. 14.

The pending closure could impact a few hundred vehicles a day that typically cross the current bridge site, Martin said.
