Destiny Vadnie is a relative newcomer to the horse-showing circuit.

But that didn’t stop her from proving any naysayers wrong last week.

The Hillsboro High School senior recently finished 10th in the Level 2 aged mares division of the American Quarter Horse Youth Association’s World Championship Show Aug. 1-10 in Oklahoma City.

Vadnie, 17, was a finalist in Level 3 and she and her 9-year-old mare, Ima Spark a Smoak, impressed judges for the high finish in Level 2 of the 18-and-under division.

“I really didn’t expect to place,” she says. “I was just so glad to be able to be there. That was a huge accomplishment.

“Those horses are bred for halter and my horse is a cow horse,” Vadnie adds with a laugh.
