Asking that their sacrifices not be forgotten, U.S. Navy veteran Randy Richards on Monday rattled off a list of North Dakota soldiers who died defending their country.

Addressing a crowd of 150 at Monday’s Memorial Day program in Hillsboro, Richards said it’s understandable to lose track of the names and stories of fallen soldiers.

But their willingness to lay down their lives protecting America’s freedoms should be remembered, the Grand Forks man said.

“Time makes us forget. But one thing we can do in their honor in Hillsboro … is to continue to remember them as a whole,” said Richards, who serves as northeast regional representative and policy adviser for U.S. Sen. Kevin Cramer.
