A Minnesota company eyeing construction of a natural gas pipeline serving Hillsboro and Mayville-Portland may face a challenge from a yet-to-be-named competitor.

Gary Nysveen, a board member for the Traill County Economic Development Commission, said June 20 that a second company could be joining Dakota Natural Gas in its efforts to bring natural gas to Traill County.

“I’ve been told there’s another player trying to get involved in supplying natural gas to this area,” Nysveen said.

Nysveen didn’t identify the company at TCEDC’s June 20 meeting in Hillsboro.

However, he added the company hails from “farther out west” in North Dakota.

After years of failed talks to bring a natural gas provider to the area, Dakota Natural Gas announced earlier this winter that the Le Sueur, Minn., company had its sights on building a gas pipeline connecting customers in Traill County.
