Three weeks after tabling the issue due to rising costs, Traill County leaders on Tuesday agreed to forge ahead with expanding the county courthouse’s parking lot in Hillsboro.

County commissioners voted to spend as much as $100,000 to build a second parking lot west of the existing one either late this year or by next summer.

Matt Lange of KLJ Engineering suggested the county advertise for bids for the project but allow contractors to set their own timeline for its completion prior to June.

County Auditor Glenda Haugen said $50,000 earmarked in this year’s general fund custodial budget would pay for half the project cost.
