The U.S. Department of Transportation appears to have passed over a grant application seeking federal funds to replace the shuttered Red River bridge west of Nielsville, Minn.

Sen. John Hoeven (R-N.D.) and Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.) announced $16.7 million in infrastructure improvements Wednesday for projects in the two states through the Competitive Highway Bridge Program.

More than $10.2 million was awarded to St. Louis County in northeast Minnesota for bridge improvements while the North Dakota DOT was given $6.5 million to replace 18 aging bridges in Traill County and eight other counties.

Neither Hoeven nor Klobuchar mentioned that a separate bridge application seeking a new Nielsville bridge separating Traill and Polk counties had been approved.
