Members of the Halstad (Minn.) Economic Development Authority want the Norman County West (Minn.) School Board to revisit a tuition deal with the Hillsboro School District.

NCW closed its high school in Halstad more than a year ago, opting to send students in grades 6-12 east to Ada-Borup while keeping the school district’s K-5 school open in Hendrum.

Jessica Spaeth, president of the Halstad Economic Development Authority, sent a letter Sept. 5 to NCW board members asking that parents in Halstad be allowed to choose between redirecting their kids west to Hillsboro instead of Ada-Borup.

The absence of a school in Halstad combined with the inability of families to choose where to educate their kids has prompted people to leave the city, Spaeth said in her letter, which was co-signed by Halstad City Council and EDA members Jeremy Melting and Brandon Mickelson.
