Traill County and its next-door neighbors are gearing up to assist one another prior this spring’s long-anticipated flood fight.

Sheriff Steve Hunt requested permission from county officials Tuesday to sign a memorandum of understanding to share resources with Steele, Grand Forks and Cass counties.

The agreement will allow Traill County to make preparations and request airboats from authorities in Grand Forks and Fargo if water rescues are required locally, Hunt said.

“This fall was the wettest fall on record when we froze up,” said Hunt, who also serves as the county’s emergency management director.

“There’s a good chance of a substantial flood this spring.”
