HALSTAD, Minn. – John Hinkley knows more about hammers than hams and spends his day selling more power tools and paint compared to produce.

But that could change next year for the small-town hardware store owner.

Hinkley, the longtime owner of Valley Hardware and Supply, has announced plans to open a new retail location in Halstad in spring 2020 that will serve as a combination hardware and grocery store.

Construction could begin soon for the new Valley General Store opening next year west of the city’s Cenex Convenience Store along Highway 75.
