Regan Christenson brings a wealth of street cred into her position as the new French teacher at Hillsboro High School.

Christenson studied abroad in college in southern France and spent a year teaching in Dreux, a city of 31,000 people about 50 miles west of Paris, after graduating from North Dakota State.

The 27-year-old educator believes students in Hillsboro will benefit from learning French, which hasn’t been offered as a foreign language at the school in recent memory.

“French is a fairly easy language to learn and a very global language,” Christenson said Monday prior to the start of fall classes in Hillsboro.

“Twenty-nine countries speak French and our closest international neighbor, Canada, has a French-speaking community.”
