Moderate to major flooding continues to appear likely for the Red River Valley, despite recent low precipitation and mild temperatures lessening the risk across the region.

The latest flood outlook issued by the National Weather Service calls for a 75 percent chance of the Goose River at Hillsboro cresting at 13.8 feet this spring.

A 25 percent to 50 percent chance persists of the river exceeding 14 feet and nearing 15 feet, with both crests likely inundating a majority of Hillsboro’s Woodland Park.

National Weather Service hydrologist Greg Gust said the latest outlook looks only marginally better than previous forecasts and people should still be cautious.
