CAVALIER – The Patriots had prepared for the Tornadoes – not the gale-force winds.

MayPort-CG (7-2) closed out its season Saturday with a 52-6 quarterfinal playoff loss to top-ranked Cavalier (11-0) in a game marked by bone-chilling winds.

Thirty-three-mph winds combined with 55-mph gusts to prevent either club from passing the ball, taking away a key component of MPCG’s high-powered offense.

The Patriots – who entered the 9-man playoffs averaging 54.25 points per game – were held to single digits for the first time this season.

“We knew coming in that the forecast wasn’t going to be good for throwing the ball,” said Patriots head coach Adam Sola.

“We were going to have to be able to run the ball, but our running game is set up with the pass and we couldn’t do that today.”
