Executive orders issued by Gov. Doug Burgum, tapping into North Dakota’s Legacy Fund and the Legislature’s 80-day biennial session were debated during a District 20 candidate forum Wednesday.

Sponsored by the Hillsboro Banner and moderated by Gregg Webster of Hillsboro, the hour-long forum on Facebook Live allowed Republican and Democratic candidates vying for state office to get their messages out to voters prior to the June 9 primary.

Participants in the forum included District 20 Senate candidates Sen. Randy Lemm (R-Hillsboro) and challenger Paul Hanson of Mayville.

On the House side, candidates included: incumbent Rep. Aaron McWilliams (R-Hillsboro); Republicans Mike Beltz of Hillsboro and Jared Hagert of Emerado; and Democrats John Pederson and Zack Blotsky, both of Mayville.

Webster opened Wednesday night’s forum by asking whether the state should consider moving away from its 80-day legislative session.
