The election race for the Hillsboro City Commission has started to take shape with one incumbent announcing that she’ll step down in June while a second remains undecided on his political future.

Lorraine Tibert won’t seek re-election to the city commission while Mike Kress said he remains up in the air on whether to seek a third term.

Meanwhile, a new candidate has tossed his hat in the ring for the upcoming election race.

Shawn Skager, a sergeant with the Traill County Sheriff’s Department, said he intends to file for office.

The 47-year-old Hillsboro man has been collecting signatures to place his name on the June 9 ballot in hopes of “bringing the city back to the city.”
