A Hillsboro native and World War II fighting ace has been honored as an American hero by the U.S. House of Representatives.

The House on Tuesday passed legislation cosponsored by Rep. Kevin Cramer, R-N.D., that seeks to award the Congressional Gold Medal to 10 North Dakota airmen.

One of the recipients of the national’s highest civilian award includes Alfred Lynn Frendberg, a 1937 Hillsboro High School grad and naval pilot credited with shooting down six enemy aircraft during World War II.
