Scheduled repairs to the dome of the Traill County Courthouse could begin within the next two weeks, county officials learned Tuesday.

County Auditor Glenda Haugen told the Traill County Board of Commissioners that General Roofing & Construction intends to start repairing the leaking dome by July 1.

County leaders signed a contract with the Carrington, N.D., contractor in March to replace windows in the dome, replace rotted wood under the metal of the dome and add a new flat room to the dome’s bell tower this summer.

The work will cost more than $125,000, although the county received a $50,000 grant from the State Historical Society of North Dakota to offset a portion of those fees.

Haugen said she spoke with Ted Keller, one of the owners of General Roofing & Construction, and learned the company planned to start dome repairs in July.
