In the wake of heavy rains and street flooding, Hillsboro city commissioners responded to pleas for help Monday from Loyal Avenue residents.

After record-setting rainstorms Sept. 20 and 21, heavy runoff channeled from backyards to Loyal Avenue.

Commissioners authorized public works director Jim Anderson to work with Advanced Engineering to check existing drainage structures and survey the area if needed.

Residents pointed out the runoff appeared to overflow a backyard channel separating older homes on Loyal from newly built homes on McDonald Drive. The runoff flowed south to Loyal instead of east to a drainage ditch.
