A dozen apartments at Kiwanis Senior Housing in Hillsboro remain uninhabitable three and half months after a kitchen fire damaged the apartment complex at 235 Kiwanis Dr.

Sylvia Hansen of the Hillsboro Development Association, which oversees Kiwanis Senior Housing, said crews have been repairing the damage from the May 12 fire but no timetable has been set to allow residents to return to their former homes.

Recently, workers have been taping and spraying the interior of the apartments and repairing the walls and ceilings that sustained fire and smoke damage in the blaze, Hansen said.

Once that work has been completed, crews will redo the flooring and clean the apartments before tenants can return to the apartments, she said.

“I know there are a few people who want to move back in but we don’t have any timetable for that to happen yet,” Hansen said Wednesday.
