The race for District 20’s House and Senate seats has started to take shape well in advance of the November 2020 election.

Incumbent Rep. Rick Holman (D-Mayville), who has served in the House since 2009, confirmed this week he doesn’t intend to seek re-election next year.

The retired farmer and college professor, who will turn 76 this summer, said the fact that he’s in his final year and a half as a state legislator shouldn’t shock anyone.

“I haven’t really kept it a secret,” Holman said Tuesday. “I knew this was going to be my last term. … I’m ready to pass the torch and I think there are highly qualified people who are ready to step up.”
