Stuck at home due to the COVID-19 pandemic, area kids are using their free time to brighten up their communities.

The #aworldofhearts movement began last weekend in North Dakota and encourages homes and businesses to share love by hanging hearts in windows.

What started as a campaign in Bismarck, N.D. has now spread internationally.

“It’s been bringing a smile to my face when I drive by,” said Stacy Dickhoff, whose daughters McKenna, 14, and Tenley, 9, have helped decorate houses along Fifth Avenue Southeast in Hillsboro.

The family cut out more than 100 paper hearts last weekend and delivered them to neighbors on their block.

“It’s something to spread some cheer while we’re stuck being apart from everybody,” Dickhoff said.

The #aworldofhearts Facebook campaign was started by Mandy Gill, a home child care provider in Bismarck.
