A group of motivational and self-help artists performed for Hillsboro, Central Valley and MayPort-CG high school students Monday.

Based out of Tuscon, Ariz., THA MASH UNIT features a group of six performers who use hip-hop, rap, poetry and drama to relay a message of hope.

Hillsboro’s Students Against Destructive Decisions chapter paid for the performances at both Hillsboro and MPCG schools as a way of carrying a positive message to students.

Hillsboro SADD adviser Lee Erickson said it’s just the start of more work that needs to be done to help teenagers around the county.

“THA MASH UNIT brings a youth-friendly presentation with a varied message,” he said. “They touch on a lot of different issues and they’ve always had a popular response from the schools they’ve been at.
