Traill County officials raised concerns Tuesday over allowing the city of Hillsboro to overlap parts of a proposed 5-mile biking and walking path in the city on county-owned land.

Corwyn Martin, the county’s road and bridge supervisor, said segments of the planned path would run along County Road 11 on the eastern outskirts of Hillsboro.

He questioned whether agreeing to partner with the city on the biking and walking path would make county crews responsible for its maintenance and create a liability exposure for the county.

“It opens a can of worms that I don’t know if we really want to get into,” Martin told the Traill County Commission.
