Building an indoor city pool in Hillsboro will cost more than city officials initially expected – at least $1 million more.

Hillsboro City Commissioner Levi Reese said Monday that construction of a new five- to six-lane pool and smaller therapy and kiddie pools could cost the city as much as $1.5 million.

The price tag would rise further to finance construction of a building to enclose the three indoor pools, Reese told the Hillsboro Economic Development Corp.

The $1.5 million estimate nearly triples the initial figure tossed out by Hillsboro City Commission Terry Sando, who said in an interview this month that city leaders hoped to build a new city pool for $500,000.
