The Hillsboro School Board may change the school district’s health insurance carrier and partner with other North Dakota schools on a new insurance plan to cut costs.

Insurance premiums paid by school employees through Blue Cross Blue Shield rose 16 percent in the past year, Superintendent Paula Suda told board members March 12.

School administrators have been in talks about creating a cooperative trust with a handful of other schools to receive insurance through Hays Companies of Salt Lake City, Utah.

Public schools in Grand Forks, Jamestown and Dickinson already are part of a trust.
