Hillsboro City Commission President Terry Sando plans to reach out to builders in hopes of spurring construction of a 20- to 30-unit apartment complex west of Interstate 29.

Sando told the Hillsboro Economic Development Corp. on Monday night that he’s tossed his support behind construction of a large, market-rate apartment building in landowner Pat Muller’s Riverwalk Addition.

“I would like to see a large (apartment complex) out there to keep the price down” for builders, Sando told HEDC board members.

Sando met earlier in the day with Muller and lobbied for the addition of an apartment building in the development that would include units in the $800 to $1,000 range per month for tenants.
