Residents in District 20 will have an opportunity to hear from Republican and Democratic candidates running for state office prior to the June 9 primary election.

The Hillsboro Banner is hosting an online candidate forum using Microsoft Teams on Wednesday, May 20.

Gregg Webster of Hillsboro, a longtime employee benefits consultant, will moderate the forum, which will be recorded and feature all seven District 20 candidates.

“The forum will offer voters the chance to hear firsthand the views and campaign ideas from candidates who want to lead District 20,” said Banner publisher Cory Erickson.

Participants in the online forum running for the District 20 Senate seat include incumbent Sen. Randy Lemm (R-Hillsboro) and challenger Paul Hanson of Mayville.

On the House side, candidates scheduled to participate include: incumbent Rep. Aaron McWilliams (R-Hillsboro); Republicans Mike Beltz of Hillsboro and Jared Hagert of Emerado; and Democrats John Pederson and Zack Blotsky, both of Mayville.

The online forum will start at 7 p.m. Wednesday and run for slightly more than an hour.

Erickson said the newspaper intends to record the forum to allow viewers to watch the event if they cannot attend Wednesday’s livestream.

A link for the Microsoft Teams candidates forum will be available Wednesday on hillsborobanner.com and on the Banner’s Facebook page.
