Students at Hillsboro High School will be able to enroll this fall in a new insurance program covering the cost of concussion treatments if they’re injured while playing sports.

Hillsboro Public Schools Superintendent Paula Suda said the HeadStrong Insurance program through Dissinger Reed Insurance is being coordinated through the North Dakota High School Activities Association and will be offered to student-athletes for $1.50 per year.

Dave Nelson, Hillsboro-Central Valley’s athletic director, said NDHSAA needed 3,500 participants to begin rolling out the program.

“They finally have enough people involved to start. And from my understanding they already have had one or two claims turned in,” Nelson told the Hillsboro School Board on Thursday.
