After further consideration, Hillsboro city commissioners relented Monday and paid a $5,000 construction incentive to a Fargo homebuilder in the Prairieview Addition.

In the end, commissioners conceded that the goal of a new house on an empty lot had been achieved.

“I’ve been thinking about it. It was a misstep but there’s a house there. I’m OK with this,” said commissioner Lorraine Tibert.

However, City Commission President Terry Sando wanted the record to reflect that the commission’s action would not erase the possibility that a resident of Prairieview could pursue legal action against Jordahl Custom Homes or the homeowner for violating the neighborhood’s covenants.

Commissioners had previously withheld a $5,000 incentive from Jordahl because one of the four homes the company built in Prairieview in the last year did not comply with covenants specific to the neighborhood.
