A newspaper publisher in Buffalo, Wyo., has purchased The Traill County Tribune in Mayville as well as three sister weekly publications in Casselton, Lisbon and Milnor.

The Cass County Reporter reported on Wednesday that J. Louis Mullen, 34, had completed the purchase of the four weeklies from former owners Sean and Cheryl Kelly of Lisbon.

The Kelly family previously owned the Hillsboro Banner, prior to its purchase by Cory Erickson and Cole and Alyssa Short in February 2012.

Mullen made headlines in South Dakota earlier this year after purchasing the Mobridge Tribune, Potter County News in Gettysburg and West River Eagle in Eagle Butte in April.

Editor & Publisher magazine, which covers the North American newspaper industry, on April 4 reported the sale of the South Dakota weeklies from their previous owners Larry and Roberta Atkinson of Mobridge.

At that time, the magazine reported Mullen owned seven other weekly newspapers from Oregon to Michigan.

In its Wednesday story announcing the most recent sale, the Cass County Reporter indicated that the Tribune, Reporter in Casselton, Ransom County Gazette in Lisbon and Sargent County Teller in Milnor will be published under a new entity, NorDak Publishing, LLC.

NorDak Publisher Kelsey Majeske told the Reporter that the newspapers involved in the recent sale will continue to run as individual offices.

However, the newspapers may be redesigned and other changes may be made in the future, she said.
