Maggie Zentner’s career choice probably didn’t surprise anyone in her immediate family.

The first-year hire in Hillsboro grew up surrounded by a family of teachers.

“I have a legacy,” Zentner, 23, said Tuesday, barely more than a week before fall classes resume in the Hillsboro School District.

“My mom’s a teacher. My aunt is a teacher. And my sister-in-law is a teacher. So I have a lot of advice coming my way all the time.”

After a stint spent substitute teaching in Fargo, Zentner has a chance this fall to continue her family’s legacy in Hillsboro.

The Richardton, N.D., native was hired as a new social studies teacher by the Hillsboro School Board in April to replace Bob Green, who retired in May.

Zenter, who will teach students in grades 7-10, graduated last year from North Dakota State University in Fargo with degrees in history education and theater.
